Book Synopsis
Everyone thinks they know Libby Strout, the girl once dubbed “America’s Fattest Teen.” But no one’s taken the time to look past her weight to get to know who she really is. Following her mom’s death, she’s been picking up the pieces in the privacy of her home, dealing with her heartbroken father and her own grief. Now, Libby’s ready: for high school, for new friends, for love, and for EVERY POSSIBILITY LIFE HAS TO OFFER. In that moment, I know the part I want to play here at MVB High. I want to be the girl who can do anything.

Everyone thinks they know Jack Masselin, too. Yes, he’s got swagger, but he’s also mastered the impossible art of giving people what they want, of fitting in. What no one knows is that Jack has a newly acquired secret: he can’t recognize faces. Even his own brothers are strangers to him. He’s the guy who can re-engineer and rebuild anything in new and bad-ass ways, but he can’t understand what’s going on with the inner workings of his brain. So he tells himself to play it cool: Be charming. Be hilarious. Don’t get too close to anyone.

Until he meets Libby. When the two get tangled up in a cruel high school game—which lands them in group counseling and community service—Libby and Jack are both pissed, and then surprised. Because the more time they spend together, the less alone they feel. . . . Because sometimes when you meet someone, it changes the world, theirs and yours.

Jennifer Niven delivers another poignant, exhilarating love story about finding that person who sees you for who you are—and seeing them right back. x

Why Am I Waiting For This?

Right after finishing All The Bright Places, I promised myself that I’ll buy the next books of Jennifer Niven. I loved everything about ATBP and Niven is one if the nicest author I know even I haven’t met her yet in person. You can find an exclusive excerpt of Holding Up The Universe here. I don’t want to read the excerpt because it will just make me more excited. I don’t even want to read the blurb. All I know is it’s the story of Libby and Jack. And yes, I admit that I am envy with those who have the ARC. 😀 You lucky guys!

Waiting On Wednesday : Sunday’s on the Phone to Monday

25814219Sunday’s on the Phone to Monday
Christine Reilly
Expected Publication: April 5, 2016
Edition: Hardcover (336 pages)
Publisher: Touchstone

The Middlesteins meets The Virgin Suicides in this arresting family love story about the eccentric yet tight knit Simone family, coping with tragedy during 90s New York, struggling to reconnect with each other and heal.

Claudio and Mathilde Simone, once romantic bohemians hopelessly enamored with each other, find themselves nestled in domesticity in New York, running a struggling vinyl record store and parenting three daughters as best they can: Natasha, an overachieving prodigy; sensitive Lucy, with her debilitating heart condition; and Carly, adopted from China and quietly fixated on her true origins.

With prose that is as keen and illuminating as it is whimsical and luminous, debut novelist Christine Reilly tells the unusual love story of this family. Poignant and humane, Sunday’s on the Phone to Monday is a deft exploration of the tender ties that bind families together, even as they threaten to tear them apart.

WHY AM I WAITING FOR THIS?

The lovely Ms. Christine provided me a copy of her debut novel in exchange for an honest review. I gave up and read the synopsis. I haven’t read The Middlesteins nor The Virgin Suicides so I’m still not sure what to expect. I’m just glad that the synopsis is not that detailed. I don’t really like detailed synopsis because it affects my reading experience, a lot. I’m planning to read this next week and I’m excited. ♥

Waiting On Wednesday : Wink Poppy Midnight

23203106WINK POPPY MIDNIGHT
BY APRIL GENEVIEVE TUCHOLKE
Expected Publication: March 22, 2016

Edition: Hardcover (352 pages)
Publisher: Dial Books

Every story needs a hero.
Every story needs a villain.
Every story needs a secret.

Wink is the odd, mysterious neighbor girl, wild red hair and freckles. Poppy is the blond bully and the beautiful, manipulative high school queen bee. Midnight is the sweet, uncertain boy caught between them. Wink. Poppy. Midnight. Two girls. One boy. Three voices that burst onto the page in short, sharp, bewitching chapters, and spiral swiftly and inexorably toward something terrible or tricky or tremendous.

What really happened?
Someone knows.
Someone is lying.

Why Am I Waiting For This?

I first saw this on Goodreads and it caught my attention. I haven’t read any of April Genevieve Tucholke’s books so I’m not sure if i would love this one. The synopsis is intriguing and the cover is lovely. I’ve read an exclusive excerpt online and it made me want to read more.

When the mysterious fog of the Ruining crept over the world, the living died and the dead rose. Only the walled city of Viyara was left untouched.

The heirs of the city’s most powerful—and warring—families, Mahyanai Romeo and Juliet Catresou share a love deeper than duty, honor, even life itself. But the magic laid on Juliet at birth compels her to punish the enemies of her clan—and Romeo has just killed her cousin Tybalt. Which means he must die.

Paris Catresou has always wanted to serve his family by guarding Juliet. But when his ward tries to escape her fate, magic goes terribly wrong—killing her and leaving Paris bound to Romeo. If he wants to discover the truth of what happened, Paris must delve deep into the city, ally with his worst enemy . . . and perhaps turn against his own clan.

Mahyanai Runajo just wants to protect her city—but she’s the only one who believes it’s in peril. In her desperate hunt for information, she accidentally pulls Juliet from the mouth of death—and finds herself bound to the bitter, angry girl. Runajo quickly discovers Juliet might be the one person who can help her recover the secret to saving Viyara.

Waiting On Wednesday : A Study In Charlotte

23272028A STUDY IN CHARLOTTE
by Brittany Cavallaro
Expected Publication: March 1, 2016
Series : Charlotte Holmes #1
Edition : Hardcover (336 pages)
Publisher : Katherine Tegen Books

The last thing sixteen-year-old Jamie Watson–writer and great-great-grandson of the John Watson–wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s enigmatic, fiercely independent great-great-granddaughter, who’s inherited not just his genius but also his vices, volatile temperament, and expertly hidden vulnerability. Charlotte has been the object of his fascination for as long as he can remember–but from the moment they meet, there’s a tense energy between them, and they seem more destined to be rivals than anything else.

Then a Sherringford student dies under suspicious circumstances ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Holmes stories, and Jamie and Charlotte become the prime suspects. Convinced they’re being framed, they must race against the police to conduct their own investigation. As danger mounts, it becomes clear that nowhere is safe and the only people they can trust are each other.

Equal parts tender, thrilling, and hilarious, A Study in Charlotte is the first in a trilogy brimming with wit and edge-of-the-seat suspense.

You have to agree with me that this one sounds really interesting and exciting. And the cover looks pretty. ♥

The city of Verity has been overrun with monsters, born from the worst of human evil. In North Verity, the Corsai and the Malchai run free. As one of only three Sunai in existence, August Flynn has always wanted to play a bigger role in the war between the north and the south. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate Harker, daughter of the leader of North Verity, August jumps on it.

A unique, fast-paced adventure that looks at the monsters we face every day—including the monster within.

Why Am I Waiting?

Look at that pretty cover! I read my first V.E. Schwab’s book (A Darker Shade of Magic) last month and I loved it. She instantly became one of my favorite authors. Her writing style is astounding, same as the world-building and characters. The second book of ADSOM will be released next month and I’m so excited for it.

Have you read any books from V.E. Schwab? What are your favorites?

Waiting on Wednesday : Stars Above

25689074STARS ABOVE
by Marissa Meyer
Expected Publication: February 2, 2016
SERIES : The Lunar Chronicles
EDITION : HARDCOVER (304 PAGES)
PUBLISHER : Feiwel & Friends

The enchantment continues….

The universe of the Lunar Chronicles holds stories—and secrets—that are wondrous, vicious, and romantic. How did Cinder first arrive in New Beijing? How did the brooding soldier Wolf transform from young man to killer? When did Princess Winter and the palace guard Jacin realize their destinies?

With nine stories— five of which have never before been published—and an exclusive never-before-seen excerpt from Marissa Meyer’s upcoming novel, Heartless, about the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Stars Above is essential for fans of the bestselling and beloved Lunar Chronicles.

The Little Android A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” set in the world of The Lunar Chronicles.
Glitches In this prequel to Cinder, we see the results of the plague play out, and the emotional toll it takes on Cinder. Something that may, or may not, be a glitch….
The Queen’s Army In this prequel to Scarlet, we’re introduced to the army Queen Levana is building, and one soldier in particular who will do anything to keep from becoming the monster they want him to be.
Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky Thirteen-year-old Carswell Thorne has big plans involving a Rampion spaceship and a no-return trip out of Los Angeles.
The Keeper A prequel to the Lunar Chronicles, showing a young Scarlet and how Princess Selene came into the care of Michelle Benoit.
After Sunshine Passes By In this prequel to Cress, we see how a nine-year-old Cress ended up alone on a satellite, spying on Earth for Luna.
The Princess and the Guard In this prequel to Winter, we see a game called The Princess
The Mechanic In this prequel to Cinder, we see Kai and Cinder’s first meeting from Kai’s perspective.
Something Old, Something New: In this epilogue to Winter, friends gather for the wedding of the century.

Why Am I Waiting?

The Lunar Chronicles is one of my all-time favorite series so I’m so excited for this book. With nine short stories! Nine! How cool is that? I only read Glitches and it was heart-wrenching. I’m excited to read Kai’s perspective, to know more about Captain Thorne and for the wedding of the century.

Have you read The Lunar Chronicles? What is your WoW for this week?

SERIES : A Darker Shade of Magic #2
AUTHOR : V.E. Schwab
EDITION : HARDCOVER (512 PAGES)
PUBLISHER : Tor

Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell’s possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland’s dying body through the rift, and into Black London.

In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt. Restless, and having given up smuggling, Kell is visited by dreams of ominous magical events, waking only to think of Lila, who disappeared from the docks like she always meant to do. As Red London finalizes preparations for the Element Games—an extravagant international competition of magic, meant to entertain and keep healthy the ties between neighboring countries—a certain pirate ship draws closer, carrying old friends back into port.

But while Red London is caught up in the pageantry and thrills of the Games, another London is coming back to life, and those who were thought to be forever gone have returned. After all, a shadow that was gone in the night reappears in the morning, and so it seems Black London has risen again—meaning that another London must fall.

I haven’t read my copy of A Darker Shade of Magic but I am so excited for this.

Edition : Hardcover (800 pages)
Publisher : Feiwel and Friends

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

Why Am I Waiting?

I’m excited for this one! I’ve read Cress (third book) this month and I can’t wait to fully meet Winter. Obviously, the book is a retelling of Snow White and even though the cover of this one looks quite different from the other books in the series, I still love it. I’m expecting for an epic ending and hopefully Ms. Marissa Meyer will not let me down! Are you also excited for Winter? What is your favorite book from the series?
