Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today’s post is all about statistics, numbers, and also some pie charts. I used Crini’s spreadsheet to track my reading in 2019 and I found it really helpful and easy to use so I’ve decided to use it again this year. I mainly based all the numbers on the spreadsheet but I didn’t include all the items. They’re all pretty self-explanatory but feel free to ask if you have any questions. Also, just a quick reminder that whether you read 1 or 200 books, the most important thing is you read! Okay, so let’s get into it.
2019 Reading Stats
I was really ecstatic that I’ve reached my goal and was able to read 100 books last year! I was really hoping to read at least 50 books more but not reaching 100. If you’re wondering, I turned 33 last year so I thought it was also a perfect number for my reading goal.
Pages and Minutes Read
Shortest and Longest Book Read
I gave a 4-star rating to Sea Prayer by Khaled Hosseini and a 3-star rating to Vengeful by V.E. Schwab. Warm Up by V.E Schwab and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah both received a 4-start rating from me.
I read and finished the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, Ignite the Stars by Maura Milan, and Monsters of Verity by V.E. Schwab. I was finally able to read P.S. I Still Love You (the third/last book of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) by Jenny Han. I started some series such as Cassidy Blake by V.E. Schwab, Playbook by Alexa Martin, and The Never-Tilting World by Rin Chupeco. 14 out of the 45 last year’s releases that I read were advanced copies. I’m happy with the number of the backlist books I read.
Genres Read
I read 92 Fiction and 8 Non-Fiction novels. Contemporary was my most read genre which followed by Fantasy, Graphic Novel, Romance, then Historical Fiction. I read some Mystery/Thrillers, Anthology, and Novella/Short Story. Also, 9 out of the books I read were translated mostly from Japanese.
Book Format
Most of my reads were in paperback format. I read 10 books in hardcover and 10 in eBook format. 10 of my reads were audiobooks which I thought helped me a lot especially while i’m doing some chores like cooking and cleaning.
Age Group
I’m honestly surprised that young adult was not my most read in 2019 because it felt like I was reading young adult the whole time.
Author Gender
I read more books by female authors last year and I’m happy about it. I want to continue it this year of course and add some more books by queer authors.
Star Rating
My average rating for 2019 was 3.6 stars. I’ve changed my rating system last year. I stopped using .5 which was actually not easy especially when a book doesn’t feel like a hundred percent 4-star and it’s not a 3-star either. But I eventually got used to it. I gave 4 stars to 57% of the books I read last year and only 8% received my perfect 5-star rating. It just shows that I got quite critical or strict with giving 5-star ratings.
